Chrism Mass at Clifton Cathedral

The Lochrian String Quartet is excited to have been asked to take part in the Chrism Mass at Clifton Cathderal this year especially after all the restrictions due to Coronavirus. Beautiful music has been chosen to be played and sung (by members of the choir of Clifton Cathedral) to accompany the blessing of holy oils. During this
mass, the priests, deacons and representatives of the entire diocesan community gather around their Bishop, who blesses the Holy Oils for use in the coming year. The Chrism mass is a key moment for unity of the Bishop and his priests, renewal of vows and promises. The Mass will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend.

Midnight Mass at Clifton Cathedral

The Lochrian String Quartet is excited to be asked to join the Choir of Clifton Cathedral conducted by Richard Jeffrey Gray on Christmas Eve for a special live broadcast on BBC1 of Midnight Mass at Clifton Cathedral. How wonderful to be back playing in person after months of Covid 19 restrictions.

Bishop Declan will be presiding at the Mass, and Canon Bosco MacDonald, Cathedral Dean, will be the preacher. Choir members will sing well-loved carols including O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night and Hark! the Herald Angels Sing. The Mass setting is Missa Universalis, composed by the cathedral’s director of music, Richard Jeffrey-Gray, and the organist is Stephen Bryant.
